Curia opens new high-speed vial filling line in Albuquerque
$200 million campus expansion will create over 250 jobs and strengthen New Mexico’s bioscience industry
ALBUQUERQUE — Curia, a leading biopharmaceutical manufacturing company, today celebrated the opening of a new high-speed vial filling line at its Albuquerque campus as part of the company’s $200 million expansion in New Mexico.
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham joined Curia CEO Phil Macnabb, Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Rob Black, Mayor Tim Keller and other state and local leaders for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Curia’s facility.
The expansion is expected to create over 250 jobs in Albuquerque, with an average salary of more than $50,000. The State of New Mexico supported the project with up to $5 million from the Local Economic Development Act (LEDA) job-creation fund.
“New Mexico has built a sophisticated bioscience industry that is helping strengthen our economy and advance the science that improves lives,” said Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. “Curia’s continued investment in Albuquerque means more good-paying jobs for New Mexicans and greater capacity to manufacture critical medicines right here in the United States.”
“Curia’s expansion is a significant investment in New Mexico’s bioscience economy and our highly skilled workforce,” said Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Rob Black. “Projects like this demonstrate the strength of Albuquerque’s bioscience sector and the value of the state’s partnership with companies that are creating jobs and expanding their operations in New Mexico.”
The new high-speed vial filling line includes advanced sterile manufacturing capabilities, including biosafety level 2 containment, two lyophilizers, automated inspection and packaging technologies. Curia also added a flexible filling line for vials, syringes and cartridges at its second Albuquerque facility on Balloon Park Road.
The investments will expand Curia’s ability to manufacture sterile drug products and strengthen the company’s role in the domestic pharmaceutical supply chain.

Curia has operated in Albuquerque for more than 40 years, supporting sterile drug product manufacturing and building specialized expertise in commercial fill-finish operations. The company’s expansion is expected to generate a potential economic impact of more than $1 billion over the next decade.
The project also builds on Curia’s work with the federal government to strengthen domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity and was supported through a cooperative agreement with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
