ALBUQUERQUE — New Mexico is offering matching funds to quantum companies pursuing DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI) Stage C to bring that work to New Mexico.
Economic Development New Mexico’s Technology and Innovation Office (TIO) announced today that QBI Stage C has been added to the list of priority federal programs eligible for matching funds under the state’s Targeted Federal Match grant. To qualify, companies must commit to performing their Stage C work in the state.
The state has invested more than $450 million into quantum technology infrastructure and workforce and is winning national recognition for its efforts.
The addition of stage C matching funds builds on New Mexico’s growing role in the national quantum ecosystem and on the state’s existing partnership with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). This new funding mechanism leverages New Mexico’s universities, private-sector innovators and world-class national laboratories to support QBI’s ambitious mission: launching utility-scale quantum computing by 2033.
TIO has also added the Army Research Office and NSA Laboratory for Physical Sciences’ Quantum Ecosystem Advancement, Growth & Leadership (QuantumEAGLe) initiative to the list of priority federal programs. QuantumEAGLe is seeking solicitations to strengthen the U.S. quantum computing ecosystem and advance fault-tolerant quantum computing — the critical transition from noisy, error-prone quantum processors to highly reliable systems — across three topics: supply chain improvements, algorithms and quantum error correction and foundational research.
“New Mexico is the next frontier for quantum technology, and we’re putting our money where our mouth is,” said TIO Director Nora Meyers Sackett. “We’re investing in the future and ensuring that the companies helping to build it can grow and scale right here.”
The Targeted Federal Match grant is open to New Mexico public entities and businesses registered — or committed to registering — to do business in New Mexico. Applicants must be pursuing one of the priority federal programs published on TIO’s webpage at edd.newmexico.gov/TIO.
Eligibility relies on the federal funder’s established review process to determine merit, allowing TIO to accelerate project selection without compromising rigor.
Applications are accepted and decided on a rolling basis as funding is available, with a target turnaround of 20 working days for a complete application review.
