Great American Flag Preservation Group Brings World’s Second-Largest American Flag to Spaceport America
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Wednesday, March 18, 2026) — Spaceport America, in partnership with New Mexico-based Wanderlust Running, is set to host the second annual Space Race on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
Occurring at the world’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport, the Space Race will feature a trio of races, including a 5K, 10K, and 15K. Participants in the 5K and 10K may run or walk their respective courses, while participants in the 15K must run.

“We love finding ways for the public to be on site and see the spaceport firsthand. It is even more memorable to walk and run on the 12,000’ x 200’ runway,” said Scott McLaughlin, Executive Director of the New Mexico Spaceport Authority (NMSA). “Besides being a fun event, it is also an opportunity to create local economic impact and let those businesses show off their hospitality,” he added.
