SANTA FE — New Mexico’s Economic Development Department awarded grants to 19 tech startups – more than double the previous high — as the state ramps up efforts to boost its homegrown tech sector.
The Science and Technology Business Startup grant awardees span high-growth sectors including advanced computing, advanced energy, aerospace, and bioscience.
“Our science and technology grants fuel innovative entrepreneurial activity across New Mexico,” said EDD Cabinet Secretary Rob Black. “Investing in these cutting-edge businesses is key to growing and diversifying economic opportunity for our state, today and for years to come.”
The expansion reflects increasing activity and funding appetite among tech startups across the state. The Technology Innovation Office and the Technology Research Collaborative Board reviewed over 60 applications in the most competitive cycle since the awards were established in 2019. Since its inception in 2019, the grant program has supported 53 New Mexican startups.
“We’re proud to award more than double the number of grants this year than last,” said Nora Meyers Sackett, director of the Technology and Innovation Office. “New Mexico’s science and technology ecosystem continues to grow, and the state continues to expand our resources to support innovation and business.”
Companies were selected based on the uniqueness of their product or service, scalability, private investment potential, projected job creation, and their projected ability to deliver economic impacts that exceed the state’s initial grant amounts. The 19 companies receiving Science and Technology Business Startup grants are:
