Congratulations to the following project beneficiaries on receiving grant awards through the Healthy Food Financing Fund!
Below is a description of all the awardees as provided by each applicant.
$50,000 | A & M Meat Processing LLC | Alamogordo
A & M Meat Processing is a female-owned livestock slaughter and meat-processing business serving 190 local farmers and communities within a 200-mile radius. A & M is completing its USDA-certified slaughter floor, including moisture barrier walls, carcass wash plumbing, and framing for a sausage and smokehouse area. The expansion makes it possible for A & M to sell USDA-inspected meat directly to the public, serve schools and wholesale buyers, and open a retail space featuring locally produced goods.
$25,000 | Ashokra Farm | Albuquerque
Ashokra grows produce that is distributed across the state of New Mexico through food hubs, and in past years at the Downtown Growers’ Market. In addition to other crops, Ashokra focuses on okra and is growing 14 varieties this year. The farm has developed a value-added product with okra, and are working to adapt the seed to be more drought tolerant for New Mexico.
$25,000 | The Little Store #2 | Chaparral
The Little Store provides essential groceries and supports local schools, churches, and community events. Funds will be used to expand fresh local and regional food inventory and launch a grocery delivery service.
$25,000 | Metate Mill | Questa
Metate Mill is a grain processing facility that converts locally grown wheat into flour for bakers, markets, and schools. Funds will be used to upgrade the food-safe infrastructure, climate control, and sanitation systems.
$50,000 | National Center for Frontier Communities: Frontier Food Hub | Silver City
Frontier Food Hub distributes food from over 45 farmers and ranchers to schools, pantries, and underserved communities. FFH is expanding its infrastructure with a larger walk-in cooler, access ramp, electric pallet jack, powered pallet stacker, and a refrigerated box truck.
$25,000 | Ogallala Commons | Clovis
Ogallala Commons is a nonprofit revitalizing rural communities through food system development and value-based supply chain coordination. Its My Foodshed Food Hub in Raton connects producers to institutional buyers and enhances cold storage infrastructure. Ogallala Commons is installing a walk-in cold storage container.
$25,000 | Prickly Pear Food Co-op (PPFC) | Truth or Consequences
Prickly Pear Food Co-op is a member-owned, volunteer-run cooperative. funding supports a major expansion that includes implementing a Point of Sale (POS) system to accept SNAP, WIC, DUFB, and debit/credit cards; a food delivery service with refrigerated electric trikes; and infrastructure at distribution sites.
$25,000 | Seed & Bloom | Santa Fe
Seed & Bloom is a nonprofit offering horticulture and culinary training to incarcerated individuals. Funds support greenhouse repairs, irrigation, food safety infrastructure, and packaging supplies.
